It is with regret that I have to inform you of the death of one of our long-standing members, Flt Lt John Roberts DFM. John died peacefully at his home in Benameji near Cordoba on Friday 4th May, at the grand old age of 96.
John served in the RAF during WWII as a Flight Engineer on 161 Squadron, carrying out flights on behalf of the Special Operations Executive, dropping agents and supplies to resistance fighters over occupied France and other parts of Europe.
He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for these actions.
He was also presented with the Legion d'Honneur by the French Government for his contribution to the liberation of France.
Our thoughts and condolences are with his daughter Katrina.

On Monday the 15th May 2017, the Branch were given a talk on Arthritis by Dr Alf Neuhaus, a local Orthopaedic Surgeon. It was very informative and well received by the 30 or so people who attended, so for those who couldn't make the talk but are interested in the subject here is the video.

Aleksandra of Solingua Spanish School located in Puerto Marina of Benalmádena Costa has been in touch.
They are a Cervantes Institute accredited centre and we specialise in Spanish Courses for foreigners.
Solingua Spanish School has a special offer (including substantial discounts and subventions) for Spanish Courses for members of Royal Air Forces Association and other employees of the foreign companies that operate in the province of Málaga, in particular in Benalmádena, Torremolinos and Fuengirola.
They know that there are numerous members of our Association who do not speak Spanish well and they believe that by learning it, you would greatly improve your professional skills and your quality of life in Spain. Solingua would be more than happy to help you achieve that.
If you need any further information, please do not hesitate to contact Aleksandra.

A Branch can only survive if it has an active Committee, and this branch is no exception. We have been lucky for a couple of years in that we have had a fairly constant committee. That has now unfortunately come to an end. For many reasons we have lost, or not filled, several positions and this has placed a very heavy load on other committee members.
Our Welfare Team is very busy but even there they have taken on other duties. The work on the committee can be very rewarding if at times frustrating, but to function properly, and to be able to offer a variety of functions, events, and services to the members, we do need a more complete number.
This is an appeal for volunteers to join us as soon as possible, and to be able to carry through after next year's AGM.
We currently have vacancies for: -
If you feel you are able to perform any of the above please contact the secretary, who will fill in some detail. Help is available to ease any volunteer into the job.

I have been asked to call for volunteers to assist the Welfare Team. Initially this would involve accompanying a Team member on visits to cases and hopefully leading to joining the Team. For those who chose to go further, there is full training available leading to RAFA accreditation. If you are interested and can spare some time then first of all please contact the secretary.
